Well, I'm sure there should be some sort of official drum roll for this but...
I'm getting married!
Both C and I are ridiculously, slightly sickeningly happy. We keep gazing at the ring and then giggling to each other like it can't possibly have happened. But of course it did! I cannot believe my luck, frankly. Or my own happiness.
He did it yesterday (23rd June) by taking me on a bit of a magical mystery tour that ended up at Lyme Park just outside Manchester. We have been before and love it there and of course it's where they filmed the Pemberley scenes in the '95 tv adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. C took me to the edge of the lake (the one Darcy climbed out of wearing a white shirt and surprised Elizabeth!) and got down on one knee. I squealed, I think, and he laughed. Then he asked me to marry him and I said yes. *ridiculous amounts of grinning*
So there we are - engaged. I sort of wanted to make a post here about it because I remember all the years I used to talk here about being alone and feeling lonely and wishing more than anything that I could find 'the one'. It was - honestly - all I ever wanted and yet I never thought it would happen to me.
But now it has, and I am happy. And it is even better than I ever imagined it would be, better because it is real. I wanted to make a post to prove that actually, dreams do come true and sometimes you do get what you want most in life.
/sickening rambling. ;)
Hope you are all well, flist.

Date: 2013-06-24 11:04 am (UTC)You so should've asked him to jump into the lake and then climb out wet-shirted. :-)
Seriously (actually, who says that isn't serious?! Take him back there and get him to do the Full Firth), I shall just repeat all the squeeful congratulations that I and everyone on Facebook and now here has offered to you both. It's a beautiful ring, and it's a beautiful story of how it happened. :-)
Having had two periods of intense loneliness myself (before I met my first wife, and then between her leaving me and me finally meeting Sarah), I know exactly what you mean. The really great thing is, it has this tendency to happen just when you're least expecting it. :-)
CONGRATULATIONS!!

Date: 2013-06-24 02:43 pm (UTC)Thank you so much, hon! Everyone has been so kind and lovely, such good wishes from all of our friends and family. A really happy time. :)
If we can be half as happy as you and Sarah that'll be good enough for me! :) Those lonely years seem so grey and sad now, I feel incredibly lucky to have found my other half. It's something everyone should experience and you're right, it does come along just when you're not expecting it! :)

Date: 2013-06-25 04:22 pm (UTC)M and I are still ridiculously happy - like you, it feels like I've found what I've spent most of my life hoping for :) (no proposals yet though!) And most of the issues with the house are now sorted - we have internets and everything! We are very grown up, aren't we?! And you are all engaged! *twirls you*

Date: 2013-06-28 09:03 am (UTC)Awww! I am so happy and pleased for you, m'dear. :) You deserve it! I'm sure proposal won't be all that far away and when it does it's well worth waiting for. ;) Glad everything is sorted - we had water coming in through the patio doors last week, I had to make handy man lots of cups of tea whilst he fixed it! Being grown ups is fun. :D *twirls*

Date: 2013-06-28 02:49 pm (UTC)Thank yoooou! He has been getting extra boyfriend points recently - I have an hour commute either way with my new job and he's been getting dinner ready every night, bless him. Not sure marrying is on the cards just yet - I need to become vaguely financially independent and sort out where my life si going - but definitely something to daydream about for the future XD
Oh no, flooding sounds bad! Glad you got it all fixed though :)

Date: 2013-06-29 08:50 am (UTC)Awww! That's lovely, it's so nice when there is someone there with dinner ready to discuss your day when you get home. :) Is new job shiny and pretty? Hope you're enjoying it, are you on the train? I guess that way at least you get to read. *g* Yes, and we are MUCH older than you two, it all goes a bit faster when you're old and your thirties I suspect. :D
*hugs* So glad you're happy, m'dear.
